This April 1, 1932 photograph illustrates the dearth of construction activity in “Old Town” Universal City. Three small, non-farming buildings can be discerned at the bottom of the photograph, just above the word “FIELD.” Two structures are on Aviation Boulevard, one approximately where Randolph Cleaners is currently located and the other about where Lomar Automotive is now. A third building is on Randolph Boulevard, about where Martinez Tire (305 Pat Booker Road) is currently located. The streets, although laid out and probably bulldozed, are not paved, nor would they be for many years. (USAF)
