19701008 SE, UC near, RAFB far.tiff

This photo was taken October 8, 1970, just over 10 years after UC incorporated.  Except for a few spots along Pat Booker, most of the lots have businesses.  The residential area is fully developed.  Note the size of the Kon Tiki apartment complex along East Aviation Blvd.  Over half of these apartments, several houses on Young Boulevard, and two businesses, including Acme Lumber, were razed in 1977-1978 for Randolph's Clear Zone under the east runway.  The same happened for West Aviation, West Lindbergh, and West Wright, from halfway west of Texas Drive to all the way west of Universal Drive, razing some 21 residences.  At the bottom center is the "gravel pit" that eventually became Universal City Park.
